How to Use the Lyson 3-in-1 Varroa Tester:

Test 1 – Checking Varroa Mite Levels:

1️⃣ Collect Bees – Scoop 300 bees (half a cup) from the brood frame into the tester. Avoid the queen!
2️⃣ Add Testing Solution – Use rubbing alcohol, winter windshield washer fluid, or soapy water to dislodge mites.
3️⃣ Shake & Separate – Secure the lid and swirl gently for 60 seconds.
4️⃣ Count Mites – Observe the number of mites at the bottom and determine infestation levels.

Test 2 – Assessing Mite Resistance to Treatments:

1️⃣ Place mites in container with a low-dose treatment (e.g., amitraz).
2️⃣ Observe mite activity after a set time. If mites remain active, resistance may be present.
3️⃣ Adjust your treatment strategy based on the results.

Test 3 – Evaluating Hygienic Behavior of Bees:

1️⃣ Use the spikes on the cap to pierce and damage brood caps on a section of sealed brood.
2️⃣ Return the frame to the hive and allow bees time to respond.
3️⃣ Check after 24 hoursa high removal rate of damaged brood indicates strong hygienic behavior.
