8 Way Bee Escape
An 8-way bee escape is a handy tool for clearing bees from honey supers before harvesting. To use it, follow these steps:
-
Prepare the Board: The escape is tacked to an existing inner cover that has a center hole to create the completed bee escape board.
-
Placement: Insert the bee escape board, with the 8-way bee escape facing down toward the brood chamber. This allows bees to move down through the escape but prevents them from returning.
-
Timing: Install the bee escape board 24 to 48 hours before harvesting. During this time, bees will exit the honey super through the escape and will be unable to return, gradually clearing the honey super of bees.
-
Check and Harvest: After 1-2 days, the honey super should be mostly bee-free, making it easier and safer to remove for honey extraction.
Ensure that no brood is present in the super before using the bee escape, as the bees may be reluctant to leave brood unattended.
Color and design may vary, but functionality remains.
