Formic Acid is used to treat tracheal and varroa mites in honey bee hives.
TIME OF APPLICATION: Do not use when honey supers are in place. Use when outside temperatures are 10° to 30°C and leave hive entrances fully open. Honey supers may go on the hive after the absorbent material containing Tracheal Mite Treatment has been removed from the hive. Pre-Harvest Interval (PHI): Honey: at least 2 weeks from the end of the treatment. DIRECTIONS FOR USE: For Control of Tracheal and Varroa Mites in Colonies in Double Brood Chamber Hives, Standard Langstroth Equipment (bees covering eight to 20 fullsize Langstroth frames or equivalent): All holes in the hive should be sealed except the bottom hive entrance, which should be fully open. Apply 30 to 40 ml of formic acid onto absorbent paper or paper towels placed on the centre of the bottom board or on the top bars of the frames in the upper brood chamber. Alternately, pre-soaked paper material (wood pulp) that holds 30 to 40 ml of formic acid and apply as ready-to-use pads on the top bars of the frames in the upper brood chamber. Do not disturb the colony for two days after each application. Repeat application at five to seven day intervals for a total of three applications. For Colonies in Single Brood Chamber Hives (bees covering four to 10 full size Langstroth frames or equivalent): Apply half the amounts indicated above, using the same method and timing.
